research
On this trip, you will be embarking on a thrilling journey to ten different and exciting locations. Each bearing a historic and rich history, these landmarks are some of the most famous and desirable travel destinations. To start off our journey, the first location will be Lenin’s mausoleum in Russia. Lenin was a Russian lawyer, revolutionary, and the leader of the Bolshevik party and of the October Revolution. He was the first leader of the USSR and the government that took over Russia in 1917 ("The Telling-tale," 2001). His body has been on display since his death in 1924 in Lenin's Mausoleum in Red Square in the centre of Moscow. This is a sight that is a once in a lifetime opportunity, as Lenin was an important factor in Russian history. Not only will this trip be fun, but it will be educational as well. With guided tours in almost every location we visit, you will gain knowledge of people, places, and cultures that you never would have known before. Lenin’s mausoleum has a large political and cultural significance. Not only will you be seeing this important Russian figure, you will also get the chance to learn more about Russia history and how Lenin changed the government, and how we can see those changes today.
In addition to your experience in Russia, you will also have the chance to see the Catacombs in Paris. The Catacombs of Paris are underground ossuaries in Paris, France, which hold the remains of more than six million people in a small part of a tunnel network built to consolidate Paris' ancient stone mines. It is open to the public, and is one of the only places in the world where you can get up close and personal with an open, underground cemetery. You will have the chance to learn a lot from this experience, as this will give info on the rich history of Paris and why such a thing like the Catacombs were even needed. This destination holds a huge cultural significance, because as Paris grew, it eventually ran into a major problem: by the 17th century, enough people had lived and died in Paris that its cemeteries were overflowing with graves to the point when corpses, at times became uncovered. This led to the creation of the catacombs, which were a mass burial site. By the time these burials ended, 6 million Parisians' bones came to their final resting place in the city's catacombs (Solis, 2006). This is the only place in the world where you can see a sight such as this one, which makes for an interesting experience.
One of the most famous locations in the world, The Colosseum, is on the list for your trip. It is one of the seven wonders of the world, so why would you not want to see that? It’s rich history is only one of the reasons why it is such a popular travel location, second only to its beauty and structure. It has a huge cultural impact on Rome, as it is one of the most famous and popular structures there (Barbi, 2007). The Colosseum was built in Rome in 70 AD, which is explored and told during a guided tour that you will partake in. Hopefully, you will be able to walk away from this experience with a greater knowledge of Rome, the colosseum, and its history.
Finally, the Globe Theater in London is one of your final destinations. This world-renowned theater is so well known mostly because of Shakespeare, who performed there many times, as his theater company built it. In the Globe Theatre, the plays of William Shakespeare were performed, yet it was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613. It was rebuilt in 1614, which is how we see it today (Covington, 1997). You will have a chance to learn about the culture of this place, and gain a greater knowledge especially on Shakespeare and his huge impact on the literary and theatrical world. In addition, your guided tour is taking place during a rehearsal in the theater, which will give you the opportunity to sit in on a rehearsal and learn more from that experience. Overall, this trip will teach you much about the rich history of the world, giving you an up close and personal experience with some of the most famous and important places in the world.
